DHEA is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands that serves as a precursor to testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone. DHEA and Cortisol both share the parent hormone Pregnenolone. Since the body cannot live without cortisol, it is common to see DHEA levels fall especially during times of stress as the body will "steal" pregnenolone from DHEA production to favor the cortisol pathway.
